Skiing - Cross Country -Skiing on Nearby Snowmobile Trails

You may cross country ski upon the snowmobile trails with the understanding that the snowmobiles have the right of way. This means that when you hear a snowmobile approaching, you must move completely off the trail to let the snowmobile pass. This rule is very similar to the rule in sailing where the larger and less maneuverable ship has the right of way over the smaller and more maneuverable ship so the smaller ship must yield to the larger ship.

The trails in red are local trails maintained by the Guilford Pit Stoppers snowmobile club which may be reached at (802) 257-1011.

The trails in green are trails maintained by VAST, the Vermont Association of Snow Travelers, Inc., which may be reached at (802) 229-0005. VAST is a non-profit, private group that includes over 145 clubs statewide, with over 33,000 members combined.

Vermont's snowmobiling season usually starts in mid December, after hunting season, and ends in early April.

Eighty percent of Vermont's trail system is on private land. Cross country skiing on snowmobile trails is a privilege and is permitted only through the generosity of the property owners. Please respect the rights of the landowners and remember to wave and to say thank you for allowing our usage of the trail system.

These trails are for winter use only! Permission to use snowmobile trails does not extend to use of these trails by hikers, mountain bikes, motor bikes, ATVs, four-wheelers, or other uses. These trails are open only during the snow season; any other use will be considered trespassing.

The trail access point is 1.6 miles from the log home.

Cross Country skiis may be rented at Burrows Sport Shop - (802) 254-9430 . Sa: 9-5:30, Su: 12-5.  2004 prices are $15 for 1 day, $25 for 2 days.
